School Breakfast Policy Briefing

WHAT: Briefing for policymakers, advocates, and media on the vital role played by the School Breakfast Program in providing food for hungry children. The briefing will also highlight the actions needed in the upcoming Child Nutrition Reauthorization to improve the programs.

WHEN: Monday, December 7, 11 a.m.

WHERE: Capitol Visitors Center, Congressional Meeting Room North

WHO: Speakers will include representatives from the Food Research and Action Center, as well as representatives from school breakfast programs in Maryland and Ohio.

The Food Research and Action Center invites you to a policy briefing, which will examine the strengths of the School Breakfast Program as well as strategies to improve it. Millions of low-income children rely on the School Breakfast Program to provide them with a healthy morning meal. The program is proven to improve children's health, nutrition, and educational achievement. But, the program as structured now reaches too few children and significant improvements can be made to expand its reach.

At the event, FRAC will share newly released state-by-state data on participation in the School Breakfast Program. It also will share an in-depth analysis of breakfast participation in 25 urban school districts. Panelists will explore how the program is working in the states and examine ways to increase program enrollment among those in need. Speakers will address the specific steps policymakers can take to improve the child nutrition programs which are due to be reauthorized by Congress next year.

We hope you can join us for this important event. Click here to RSVP.
