Helpful Resources
There are resources available to help feed you and your family while homeless. These include the well-known food programs Food Stamps, WIC (Women, Infants and Children) and School Meals.

All of these programs have special rules that make it easier for you to apply and receive resources.

Besides the federal government, there are also many Houston-based organizations that try to provide for the needs of Houston's homeless. This Tool Kit gives links so that you can easily find out how to contact them.

Funding to Feed Children in Shelters
The federal government has a program called the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which reimburses shelters up to $6.66 a day for feeding a child aged 18 and under. Shelters in Houston can use this program to bring much-needed benefits to you and your children.

This Tool Kit contains basic information, model programs, and guides for meal planning. There is also a sample outreach letter to shelters, which can be used to convince shelters to apply for CACFP funding.
