Celebrity Artist
Celebrity Artist: Tomie dePaola
National award winning children's book author and illustrator,
Tomie dePaola has supported the Campaign with generous contributions of original artwork
since 1992. Tomie has been writing and drawing since he was a young boy. Over the past
30 years he has received many awards including the prestigious Caldecott Honor Award from
the American Library Association and a Smithson Medal from the Smithsonian Institution.
He has written the stories for almost 80 books and illustrated almost 200. More than
five million of his books have sold worldwide.
FRAC is proud to have Tomie as its celebrity artist for the Campaign to End Childhood Hunger. "When I was a little boy," Tomie once told FRAC, "we all looked forward to getting milk at lunch time. It wasn't until years later that I discovered that my teacher had put in her own money to be sure that every child got milk even if they couldn't afford it."
