What's New USDA Proposes Healthy WIC Food Packages: It is Time for a Change, You Helped it Happen! Thanks to all that took the time to send comments to the USDA about the proposed new healthy WIC food packages. Your comments will help make these much-needed new food packages a reality and hopefully make them even stronger. USDA received more than 30,000 comments about the new packages. It is reviewing the comments prior to making a final rule. Make sure to check FRAC’s Web site to see the latest news and details as the process moves forward. In September, USDA issued proposed regulations revising the WIC food packages based on Dietary Guidelines, current nutritional science and cultural preferences by adding fruits and vegetables, whole grain bread, corn tortillas, whole grains, and the option of soymilk and tofu and moving to low-fat milk and whole grain cereals.
To learn more, see FRAC’s summary of the new WIC food package proposal, our statement and press. FRAC has developed a more detailed comment letter (English version or Spanish version) that provides background on the key issues.
