FR: Call Your Member of Congress Today in Support of a “Clean” Vote on January 10th to Increase the Minimum Wage

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on Wednesday, January 10th on a bill to raise the minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour over two years. This increase is long overdue and much needed. Your call can help build support for a clean bill (without any extraneous measures, such as small business tax break “sweeteners”) to increase the minimum wage. The Senate will be taking up the measure after the House. A strong House vote will send a powerful message to the Senate where a clean bill will be more difficult to attain.

Call 1-800-459-1887, toll-free, to be connected to the U.S. Capitol Switchboard. Ask to be connected to your Representative's office. For information on your particular Member of Congress, click here.

MESSAGE: Urge your Member to vote for H.R. 2, the bill to increase the minimum wage for the first time in 10 years. Insist that she or he vote to pass a clean bill without any special interest provisions weighing the bill down with unnecessary tax breaks.

FRAC is working in conjunction with The American Friends Service Committee, the Let Justice Roll Living Wage Campaign, and the Coalition on Human Needs, which urge all in their networks to call Congress and also to forward this alert. The toll-free number is generously provided by the American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker organization which welcomes groups to circulate and use the toll-free number to support specific policies that promote economic justice and human rights, and without linking the alert to a website soliciting donations or actions which may be used to support partisan lobbying or work.
