Statement attributed to Jim Weill, president, Food Research & Action Center (FRAC)

WASHINGTON, April 29, 2019 —The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) was deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana. For decades, Senator Lugar was a champion in public and behind the scenes for the federal nutrition programs as a member and Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee. His commitment to the anti-hunger cause, his great skills as a legislator, and his keen ability to forge bipartisan proposals and legislation helped protect and advance provisions within SNAP, school meals and other child nutrition programs. In recognition of his passionate and unwavering support of these programs, FRAC recognized Senator Lugar twice (in 1992 and 2003) with its Distinguished Service Award.
